Friz BnB

Gundelfingen bei Freiburg, Black Forest, Germany

The Friz BnB is located in Freiburg im Breisgau in Baden-Württemberg and offers holiday apartments in a historic building with a green garden.

Today, a modern life is possible there in a 200-year-old barn, where previously there was only animals, hay and dust. Hostess Melanie inherited the barn from her grandparents and renovated it extensively after playing there between chickens and pigs and learning to love the building. Since March 2017, she and her husband Ron, their daughter Izzy and their cat have been hosting guests from all over the world who are all enthusiastic about the concept.

The barn is more or less an upcycling project, in which modern and spacious apartments have been created from old stock. Despite the contemporary furnishings, you can feel in the barn that it has existed for a long time. For example, there is hardly any cell phone reception in the old walls. The Friz BnB is perfect for guests who love architecture, art and design as much as their hosts.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe barn is 200 years old and the original architecture was preserved during the renovation. The original roof structure and the wooden beams were steamed, sandblasted and reinstalled. The conversion took place exclusively in cooperation with local companies. All apartments are decorated differently, but all are built in loft style. The facility consists partly of finds from international auction houses and has been put together with a lot of love, according to the way of life of the hosts. Art and seating objects, decorative elements and many books - they are all things that have been collected over many years, including classics by Ray & Charles Eames and Jean Prouvé from the 1930s.

FoodThe FRIZ BnB optionally offers breakfast, with all apartments having fully equipped kitchens. The Friz has a lounge café, where only fresh and regional ingredients are used, if possible also in organic quality. The house recommendation is: Chicken Tandoori Salad. The dishes always have vegan and vegetarian options for the guests.

EnvironmentWe take a holistic approach to sustainability, from energy generation by means of a combined heat and power plant, waste separation, environmentally friendly cleaning agents, vegan cosmetics in the apartments to organic coffee and tea. Attention is paid to short distances, all employees, including room fairies, live in the village. And in the garden there are numerous bee-friendly plants.
