Fjand Badeby

Ulfborg, West Jutland, Denmark

The sound of the sea and the smell of coffee fill the morning hours here in Fjand Badeby on the Danish North Sea coast. In West Jutland, you can expect miles of picture-perfect beaches and dunes, lush marshland and plenty of free time in nature.

Jesper and Helle have lovingly transformed a former holiday colony from the 1970s into a modern holiday village with 15 residential units. When the two took over the site in 2020, they had to completely renovate and modernize it. The whole family - from grandparents to grandchildren - has known and loved the region for decades from their own holidays.

The furnishings are simple, original and at the same time very cozy. The hyggelig wooden houses are individualized with Danish tableware, wooden chairs, blankets and small details. In the community house you can sit together at long tables or cook. It is like a shared living room with a fireplace, record collection and a small farm shop - there are fresh rolls here in the morning. The rolls with the Fjand Badeby honey, which is freshly produced by the neighbor Jens Ole, are particularly delicious.

In Fjand Badeby, guests decide whether they want to spend time with other guests or need some peace and quiet. You can have a barbecue together or listen to concerts, or go hiking in the summer. The nature is incredibly soothing and relaxing. A place where there is plenty of space for children to run around and - if you want - to make new friends.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe wooden cabins were built in the 1970s. When the hosts took over the place in 2020, it was dilapidated. They have renovated and refurbished it with respect for the original architecture. In all renovation projects, as well as in the interior design of the houses, as much as possible was recycled. Strandfogedgården, which also belongs to Fjand Badeby, is an old farm from the 16th century that has also been preserved in its original style.

FoodThe farm shop has homemade sourdough rolls, butter-baked croissants and cinnamon rolls, as well as a freezer with pizza. Coffee from the local roastery, milk, butter and Westsee cheese. There are snacks, sweets, local beer specialties, organic lemonade and natural wine. In addition, various goods can be pre-ordered directly from local producers and partners, which are delivered directly - including organic vegetable boxes, game and free-range meat.

The employees come from the region and have a special connection to this place. They have free access to all facilities when they are not being used by others. In addition, there are collaborations with the local municipality regarding the employment of people who have difficulty finding work for various reasons. Once a year, DanChurchSocial (Danish charity) invites those in need to a weekend trip to the site.
