Ferienwerk

Ofterschwang, Bavaria, Germany

Experience life in the mountains as if you actually lived there. In a place that is not overrun by tourism but offers everything a guest could wish for. You can get all this at Ferienwerk in Ofterschwang in the Allgäu. You don't need a car here, because you can reach everything for your daily needs on foot or by bike.

The holiday home with two apartments is surrounded by the rushing stream in the ravine next door and a wild meadow in the garden. The two owners Julia and Kornelius had been looking for a special house for a long time. They finally found it in winter 2022 and enthusiastically started the project building in and with the existing building. As an architect and civil engineer, it was important to you to preserve the historical substance of the house from 1901, but you also wanted it to be carried over to 2022 with contemporary comfort.

Cosiness meets timeless design in the Ferienwerk. The Allgäu farmhouse parlor is combined with classic architecture. Here, warm wood, furniture that tells a story and clean lines combine to create a cozy whole. Creaky wooden floors meet raw steel and clay plaster walls create a comfortable living atmosphere. The bathrooms have been completely renovated or completely redesigned and equipped with underfloor heating in order to live in a contemporary and comfortable way. The two want to create awareness for simple, sustainable building and living.

Sustainable

ArchitecturePreserving the historical substance of the house from 1901 was particularly important to Julia and Kornelius. During the renovation, they worked exclusively with local craftsmen and, where possible, reused many materials such as old wooden beams and stone slabs.

FoodJulia and Kornelius offer their own mountain honey from their bee colonies for sale. You are greeted with a box of eggs from their hard-working hens and a small selection of organic wines is also available for purchase.

EnvironmentThe Ferienwerk obtains the green electricity mix from the local electricity provider. District heating will hopefully make it possible to heat even more ecologically in the near future. The wild garden, which is mowed twice a year by the neighbor's goats, offers a home for many animals. In addition, guests are encouraged to separate waste and save energy. Wherever possible, natural microbial-based cleaning agents are used. Refillable cosmetic products from Stop the water while using me are also available to guests.

Well-BeingYoga or meditation courses or workshops are offered on request.
