Ferien in Fergitz

Uckermark, Brandenburg, Germany

In recent years, the Uckermark has become something of a rural enclave for Berliners. Some even call it Berlin's thirteenth district. Kirstin and Volker also fell in love with the region and especially with the 60-strong town of Fergitz during one of their outings from Berlin and decided to create a refuge here.

In 2012, they acquired the more than 100-year-old farm worker's house and, after a thorough planning and renovation phase, opened their holiday home to guests in 2020. It should be a place to feel good and relax. And in fact, in the middle of the nature reserve and right on the lake, you can quickly find peace here.

The two apartments are very tastefully furnished with a successful mix of antique furniture and designer classics such as Thonet chairs and Poulsen lamps. Clay plastered walls, light natural materials, wooden furniture, modern bathrooms, natural wooden floors and an open room concept with large panoramic windows ensure brightness and a successful feel-good atmosphere. In the downstairs apartment, a fireplace and a piano complete the interior. The large, open and well-equipped eat-in kitchens invite you to cozy cooking and games evenings. Both apartments have terraces with a wonderful view of the countryside.

There are plenty of lakes, cycling and hiking trails in the area for day trips and nature adventures. And at the same time, there is a disproportionately large number of good, regional shops and restaurants in this sparsely populated region. The best conditions for a culinary feel-good holiday for the whole family and friends.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe farm worker's house, which is over a hundred years old, is an original part of the town centre. When designing the exterior facade with natural paint, attention was paid to the harmonious overall picture of the place. The materials used come from certified production in the area. The local population was consistently involved in the construction and neighboring craft businesses were given preference.

FoodThe regional shop "bonUM gustUM" in the neighboring village of Flieth offers Uckermark specialties with regional and seasonal delicacies from local production and organic farming. Excellent food is also available at Gut Temmen (10 km) and Gut Kerkow (20 km), run by Sarah Wiener. Freshly caught fish can be found in Lindenhagen near Trellert and at the Löwe sea fishery in Angermünde. In Gerswalde you can enjoy excellent seasonal dishes with ingredients from the region in the Gaia restaurant. Most of the vegetables are home-grown in the restaurant's "Big Garden". In the neighboring town of Stegelitz, the crowdfunded village brewery "Die Brau" is worth a visit.

In order to strengthen the region, the contributors, such as cleaners, caretakers, gardeners, craftsmen etc. all come from the Uckermark. Income and social benefits are in line with or partly exceed local and national regulations. Pay is fair, working hours are regulated and labour law standards are observed.
Kirstin and Volker are members of the association Förderkreis Dorfkirche Fergitz and there is ongoing support through regular donations to social institutions.

EnvironmentThe topic of sustainability and environmental protection is particularly important due to the location alone. A photovoltaic system and solar thermal energy were installed to generate energy, and attention is paid to environmentally friendly products for bed linen, towels and cleaning agents. Waste separation is obligatory and the watering of the plants for the outdoor area comes from the rainwater cistern. Saving water is also taken into account and guests are advised to use all resources sparingly. The orchard planted by the hosts consists of old, rare varieties, the trees, shrubs and seeds are exclusively from ecological, regional cultivation and the extensive property with natural meadows is particularly bee and insect friendly.
