El Jardín de las Aves is a unique accommodation located in the middle of a sprawling 3000 m² park in Cantabria, Spain, where numerous species of birds live and breed. Guests can observe the fascinating bird life and enjoy the sounds of nature. The house offers impressive views of the treetops of the park and the Atlantic Ocean.
The house was built 20 years ago by a couple of artists who lived there until recently. Many of their collected works of art by various artists still decorate the walls. Host Carola Belloni took over the house from the builders and decided to rent it out to holiday guests when she is not there herself. The interior is a harmonious mix of vintage furniture and modern elements. The house offers a spacious, bright and calm atmosphere and is open plan, with floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious rooms.
It's also wonderful on your doorstep: a beautiful, unspoilt sandy beach is just a 13-minute walk away. The famous Altamira caves with museum, some of the most beautiful surfing beaches in the region and the charming town of Comillas are also just a 10-minute drive away. Hiking enthusiasts will also get their money's worth, with numerous trails in the idyllic hinterland and visits to authentic, small villages. Santander is just 30 minutes away by car, and Bilbao can be reached in around 1.5 hours.

Sustainable
ArchitectureA lot of wood was used to create a warm and natural atmosphere. When purchasing the furniture, particular attention was paid to durability. No tropical woods were used, and sustainable materials such as cotton were also used for other elements such as the hammocks.
EnvironmentAs part of sustainable measures, solar panels have already been ordered and will be installed on the roof in the coming months. The oil heating system will not be replaced until next autumn by a heat pump, which will take over the heating function in the future. Signs about saving water and electricity have been put up in the house itself, and an introductory dossier informs guests about these practices. Waste separation is carried out consistently and a compost heap is available in the garden. Only organic products are used for cleaning, washing machines and washing dishes. Organic products are also used in the bathroom. The garden is designed to be close to nature, with many places for animals, especially birds, to retreat to.
