The Dömchen is a half-timbered house that is over 400 years old and once served as a sexton's house and village school. Its eventful history is reflected in every room. The original, soot-blackened walls in the kitchen and the current bathroom provide an exciting contrast to the modern luxury furnishings embedded in the listed clay walls of the house.
Kirsten Mauer is the host of the historic property, which she discovered in 2021 and lovingly restored in close cooperation with the monument protection authority. The house has been rented out since December 2022 and is very popular with guests from all over the world who appreciate its exceptional nature.
The hostess's vision is to emphasize the regional identity of the Eifel, to preserve the history of old houses and estates and to transform them into contemporary places where the historical way of life merges with modern comfort and living culture.
The little church is very quiet, only the church bell reminds us that another hour has passed. Guests describe the atmosphere of the holiday home as "arriving and feeling at home". Since the half-timbered house dates from the early 1600s, when people were smaller than they are today, the ceiling heights on the upper floors are low by today's standards. The rooms exude a great sense of coziness. The room climate of clay plaster, wood and pinewood beds is ideal for relaxing.

ArchitectureIn accordance with the requirements of the monument protection authority, the old half-timbered house was lavishly restored using the original materials of wood and clay. The beds were tailor-made for the Dömchen from untreated pine wood and give guests a special sleeping pleasure with deep relaxation. The carpenter and joiner Siegfried Meyer, who carried out the restoration of the old wooden structure in coordination with the monument protection authority, was awarded the special prize in the category of design and carpentry 2023 by the Economic and Regional Development Agency of East Belgium (where his company is located) for the work in the Dömchen. All of the craft companies involved in the renovation come from the Eifel.
FoodThe Dömchen offers its guests welcome treats from the neighbor and chef Elie as well as selected wines from the in-house wine fridge. In the village of Dom-Esch there are two beautiful farm shops with regional products. Elie also bakes fresh muffins once a week, which are sold in the farm shop in the village. He also bakes quiche to order.
All employees of the Dömchen come from the Eifel region. Kirsten Mauer also supports animal welfare projects, in particular "Life for Peaches", a dog rescue program in cooperation with Romanian and German animal rights activists who take care of rescuing dogs from killing stations. Kirsten has adopted dogs from this program herself and donates money to this project with the help of the Dömchen's income.
Well-BeingThe Dömchen has an outdoor relaxation area in the courtyard with a designer fountain and a designer sauna.
