Crann Og Eco Farm

Gort, County Galway, Ireland

In Crann Og there is a true paradise of sustainable nature on about six hectares. Without traffic noise, instead with twittering birds and chicken cackling. Without a TV, WiFi and electric light, it is a protected place where children can run freely and discover a lot and people can think back on their mutual connection with nature.

Marion and Flor have been working in Crann Og for around 16 years for a life based on sustainability and network independence and more and more in harmony with nature and animals. Over the years, the area has been lovingly designed with small vegetable and orchards, large meadows and all kinds of hidden corners with living pasture tunnels and arches, a pond, sheep and ponies grazing in between, friendly dogs, chickens and geese. And behind the farm there is an ancient Irish oak forest with all its secrets. The garden areas are constantly changing and somewhere there are always adobe walls or wicker tunnels in progress. Every guest who feels like it is welcome to be active here, as well as scratching the extensive dogs and sheep.

But there is also a lot to see outside the farm. Several national and nature parks are nearby and lakes and rivers can be reached on foot or by bike. Crann Og is designed for self-sufficiency. For guests of the farm there is a large, well-equipped communal kitchen in the HOGAN, a round wooden hut in the style of the Indians, for cooking and eating. Dining areas inside and outside, grill, pizza oven and fireplaces invite you to socialize with other guests and volunteers.

Vegetarian or vegan meals can be booked for seminars and retreats. The Crann Og Eco Farm is now one of the best-known ecological holiday and seminar houses for sustainability and re-naturing seminars in Ireland.

Sustainable

ArchitectureWith a lot of imagination, small A-shaped huts made of pallet wood, Mongolian yurts and a large communal hut (with kitchen) have been gracefully scattered in the middle of nature. Almost all building materials with which the various accommodations were built and equipped are recycled or recycled. Modern and artificial materials have been completely avoided, on the one hand for the benefit of the environment and health, and on the other hand to keep the natural appearance of the Crann Og Farm as pure as possible.

Wherever possible, the operators of the farm look forward to employees from the neighborhood. Most of the employees on Crann Og are volunteers or so-called volunteers from all over the world. In addition to board and lodging, they also receive reduced accommodation prices for their friends and family for their work on the farm. In addition, they can take part in all courses such as yoga, wild herb hiking and the like. participate, and also learn all techniques of sustainable construction, cultivation and lifestyle practiced on the farm. To support the region, nature courses for children and nature therapies for adults are offered on Crann Og and the operators regularly organize community activities such as garbage collection and forest maintenance.

EnvironmentLife on Crann Og is based on an idea of interdependency between nature and humans and the inhabitants of Crann Og consider themselves part of nature and nature as part of themselves. So everything has been designed here from the beginning on sustainability and ecology and the principles of "avoid (waste), reuse, recycle" applied. Accordingly, there is hot water from solar panels, only composting toilets, energy-saving lamps and all wastewater is recycled. The many animals on the farm are part of the natural cycle and feed all the leftovers and the weeds in the gardens. The high-quality drinking water comes from its own source.
