Whoever wakes up in Cortijo El Sarmiento in Andalusia, Spain, either looks at a pretty patio with a fountain in the middle, old trees and bougainvillea, or sees the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park in the distance. At breakfast the view remains just as beautiful, and the terrace with pool and the large garden add to the holiday feeling.
They describe the story of how hosts Yvonne and Carsten found the house as “the house found us!”, Because when looking for a suitable property, it kept turning up without ever being clicked. Ultimately, one click led to the other and the two fell in love with the beautiful Andalusian landscape.
The old house, however, was not in good condition at the beginning, it had to be extensively renovated and restored. Today the house consists of "old" rooms with high ceilings and wooden beams, which are furnished in a typical Andalusian way, as well as two new rooms, which are modern and spacious.

ArchitectureThe architecture combines an old with a new building, both differ stylistically, but together result in a special harmony. All furniture was made in Spain. During the renovation, we worked exclusively with local companies.
FoodGuests can expect dishes made from seasonal and local ingredients. Often these are also in organic quality. There is fruit from our own cultivation, which is processed into jams, desserts or pressed juices and can be tasted by the guests. Herbs also come from their own garden. In the evening, cheese and ham from neighboring farms are served on delicious platters. Guests can also look forward to Andalusian specialties such as ajo blanco (cold soup), migas or various rice dishes. Intolerance is gladly taken into account. A menu is generally served three times a week (from four people), or the hosts conjure up various local specialties with matching wines.
The B&B only has one employee who lives with her family in the neighboring village. Employers are always happy to take private circumstances into account or when something is wrong with the employee's children. A school project in Uganda is supported, which has meanwhile also become a hospital ward. So far there have already been a few guests who have also financially supported the project, because here they can see exactly where their donation is going.
EnvironmentA solar system provides hot water, photovoltaics for the energy. Attention is paid to recycling and waste separation or waste avoidance. The B&B has a small sewage treatment plant to recycle the wastewater for garden use. The large gardens are designed to withstand the desert climate and the treated water is sufficient to irrigate the garden. In addition, only biodegradable detergents and detergents are used.
Well-BeingThe Cortijo El Sarmiento has a small spa area with a sauna, as well as massages and cosmetic treatments. The large pool is heated all year round and a yoga teacher can come on request and offer courses for guests. The area around the B&B is now well known for cycling, but the hosts only recommend the routes to experienced cyclists. The area is ideal for hiking and all kinds of water sports in the sea.
