The Sintra National Park, part of the UNESCO World Heritage, stretches all around with its varied flora. Only a few kilometers away and within sight, the Atlantic rages against high coastal formations and foams over wide beaches of light sand. In the distance, the silhouettes attract fairytale palaces, castles and cities.
But here in the small B&B Colina Flora there is silence and homely beauty in the flowery garden with its various terraces and resting places and the blue pool. The colored rooms with a view of nature and the cozy beds made of natural materials go well with this.
At the rich breakfast buffet, every discerning vegetarian and vegan will get their money's worth and the other meals can either be prepared in the guest kitchen or enjoyed in one of the many family-run restaurants in the area.
The property offers its guests a self-designed map with all the important, interesting and practical information. Incidentally, the well-developed public transport network works so well that it is a real alternative to your own car.
ArchitectureOn the land of a former quinta, a previous owner built several smaller buildings. In the garden there are also remnants of the much older masonry, for example a centuries-old windmill, which is still waiting to be restored. The current owners of the B&B, which opened 8 years ago, have renovated the newer houses with natural and sustainable building materials and non-toxic eco colors. Artistic new furniture was made from old wood by local artisans.
FoodThe operators of the Colina Flora have been members of the Slow Food movement for many years. Several times a week, the B&B is supplied by local farmers with fresh organic food such as vegetables, fruits and eggs. From this, the varied breakfast buffet is put together with love every day. It consists of exclusively vegetarian and often vegan ingredients. Much also gluten-free and everything made ecologically. Many fresh or processed fruits are served here as well as various types of cereal preparation such as muesli or chia pudding. Cheese, eggs and bread are from local suppliers and freshly baked muffins or cakes are served every day. Freshly squeezed juices, ginger smoothies and all kinds of other imaginative creations are also offered. As much as possible is prepared by yourself and absolutely nothing comes from the microwave.
The operators of Colina Flora are involved in a regional cooperative for ecological cultivation, are co-founders of the local Slow Food Group and the local Waldorf School Foundation Initiative.
EnvironmentAlmost everything is separated and recycled or composted here, whereby shopping in small shops with little outer packaging results in relatively little waste. All electrical devices are as energy-saving as possible and the shower heads and fittings save water. The next purchases will be solar panels and an electric car.
Well-BeingYoga and Ayurvedic massages are offered. In addition, cooking courses, for example on the popular topic of "natural fermentation". There is also a group of knitters who like to include guests in their group.
