Casita Ayurveda

Icod de los Vinos (Teneriffa), Canary Islands, Spain

Fabienne and Tobias lovingly run the "Casita Ayurveda" spa and guest house, which has been established for over 15 years. In a beautiful atmosphere, guests can do Ayurvedic cleansing and fasting treatments, which are professionally accompanied by yoga, massages and body work.

The large, diverse and well-kept garden paradise with its many terraces, seating areas and the elevated view of the sea invites you to linger. In this oasis there are plenty of retreats to rest and regenerate. The style is a cheerful and colorful mix of Canarian flora (including cacti, palm trees) and Indian decorative elements. All three double rooms and the garden terraces offer a magnificent, unobstructed view of the Atlantic. On a clear day you can see the neighboring island of La Palma. The rolling and lush countryside around is incredibly beautiful and soothingly green.

Fabienne and Tobias can look back on many years of experience as yoga teachers, trainers, sports scientists and are, in short, holistic, medical therapists. Fabienne had previously set up a seminar and retreat center on the neighboring island of La Palma. She loves the powerful energy of the Canary Islands and the daily sea view. Both completed their yoga and Ayurveda training (Ayurveda literally means “wisdom of life”) in India. Tobias is also a passionate cook who is currently delving deep into Ayurvedic cuisine.

The two sympathetic hosts are already planning further; they would like to build sustainable tiny houses, an outdoor sauna and a biotope pool in the garden. The permaculture garden - a self-regenerating garden in which the cycle of nature is respected and imitated - is also being further developed by a gardener. So that Tobias continues to get the ingredients for his small, healthy delicacies directly from his own garden. The lentil dal, the vegan curry or the Ayurvedic porridge with fruit are particularly popular and easily digestible. Here body and mind can heal in the most beautiful surroundings with pleasure and joy.

Outside of the fixed course times, we also rent out the casita as a normal holiday home. Here our guests have access to the first floor with three double rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, a kitchen, a dining room, the garden paradise, the yoga house and the pool with a hot outdoor shower. Please enquire directly by e-mail or telephone. The available times can be found on the Casita website.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe house was built in colonial style in the 1960s and was carefully and sustainably renovated by the previous owners, who already paid attention to building biology aspects. The entire house was built in wooden post and beam construction. The rooms have real wood floors and real wood wall panelling. Regional natural materials such as volcanic stone were used for the finishing.

FoodMost of the fruit and vegetables come from a family-run, certified organic farm in the immediate vicinity. Ninety percent of the produce and food comes from Tenerife itself, the rest from the neighbouring islands or from mainland Spain. Everything is one hundred percent organic, including the spices and oils. The vegetable and fruit garden is gradually being transformed into a permaculture garden. On site there are lemons, bananas, oranges, herbs, salads, papaya, avocado, various vegetables and also neem leaves from their own neem tree.

The staff is from the immediate vicinity. Of course, everyone can use the yoga house, the pool and the garden and take part in the courses (yoga, meditation, Pilates, physical training). The workaway workers or whoofers (volunteers on organic farms) stay free of charge in Garden Paradise trailers or in their own campervans and/or tents.

EnvironmentOnly organic products are used for cleaning, cleaning and washing agents. The energy is generated by means of a PV system in stand-alone operation with a total output of up to ten kilowatts, so that two charging stations for electric cars can also be operated. All household appliances have the highest energy efficiency class. Since both hot water generation and heating are powered by electricity, the building is even climate-neutral in this regard. The waste is separated in the usual way. The kitchen waste is used to build up humus in permaculture. The irrigation water for the garden paradise is obtained from a water cooperative that provides water from three wells, an underground water tunnel and treated water.

Well-BeingDifferent massages are offered (full body, head, foot or hand massages, energy massages, hot stone ayurvedic massages). In addition, special Ayurvedic treatments such as forehead casting (Shirodhara), local oil treatments (Vasti), herbal stamps (Pinda Sveda), Ayurvedic herbal powder massage (Udvartana), but also coaching of different orientations (focus coaching, systemic coaching, Ayurvedic coaching, yoga coaching) and personal training.
