Casa WAN is an artist project in rural Portugal around the village of Aljezur in southern Portugal. The aim of the owner is to bring art and tourism together in this culturally weak region. Guests of the house can support the work of an: s artist: in directly through their stay and gain insights into their work in the off-season.
The house was built in the 1980s and renovated in 2020/21. Casa WAN celebrated its opening in June 2021. Planned by a Portuguese family as a summer residence, it is located in a secluded one-way street next to other houses from the same family. There are no direct neighbors inside, and the house is beautifully embedded in the Costa Vicentina, a special part of the Algarve. This area is integrated into a natural park, which is the largest protected area on the Portuguese coast. The guests enjoy the numerous hours of sunshine here and immerse themselves in the landscape with its color palette of lights. The only background noise that you can hear during your stay consists of the chirping of birds, waves and the gentle rustling of the flora.
When the hostess Nadja Buseck saw the house for the first time, she was blown away from the building. She wanted to buy it immediately, but it was already sold out. Months later I got a phone call saying the house was up for sale again, and this time she was able to buy the casa. Nadja loves Portugal and finds that as host and operator of the art house project, she has the opportunity to help shape the cultural landscape in the south of the country. She appreciates the presence of nature and wants to make it tangible for her guests.
Guests of the house can support the work of as artists directly through their stay and gain insight into their work. The house is available for exclusive booking all year round and during artist residencies double rooms with private bathrooms are available.
The name Casa WAN is derived from the main platform "Where About Now". The initials have great significance for the hostess, not only in a geographical but also in a metaphorical sense. Casa WAN is in a truly magical place and the project aims to challenge the contemporary (now).
