Casa Viva

Costermano sul Garda, Veneto, Italy

Costermano sul Garda is located above Lake Garda with a breathtaking view of the lake and Monte Baldo. Casa Viva is surrounded by olive groves, forests and meadows - footpaths lead through the picturesque landscape.

The guesthouse opened to guests in 2021 and offers a very personal and quiet atmosphere with only eight rooms. The vision of the hosts Asya and Marco is to create a place where sustainability and hospitality go hand in hand. The so-called straw bale houses were built around a small courtyard and have a very pleasant smell inside. The furniture is mostly made of reclaimed wood and recycled materials. The cozy rooms are also decorated with Asya's paintings and the floor is made of handmade terracotta tiles.

The organic pool is particularly beautiful and is cleaned using special plants. Guests of all ages can spend a holiday close to nature here. This naturally includes spending time with the horses, sitting in the permaculture garden or simply enjoying the view. Most of the food offered at the delicious breakfast grows in the garden or is sourced from local producers. There are also vegan or gluten-free options - the vegan chocolate cake is legendary.

The region is popular for its many outdoor activities on and around the lake. If you prefer to stroll through picturesque towns and enjoy good food, this is also the place for you - Garda, Bardolino and Limone are definitely worth a visit and a piece of picture-book Italy. Casa Viva is ideal for travelers who want to spend an environmentally friendly vacation without having to forego comfort.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe buildings are constructed from straw bales and untreated larch wood, while green roofs and solar panels ensure an environmentally friendly energy supply. A geothermal system is also used for cooling, minimizing environmental impact. The ecological and sustainable architecture has been nominated for the Mies van der Rohe Prize for Architecture 2022. All materials are sourced locally. Only natural materials such as wood, straw, stones, lime and clay were used. The furnishings were partly built from materials left over from the site, such as wood from horse shelters in stables or recycled metal from the recycling center.

FoodThe fruit and vegetables are seasonal and mostly grown on site or bought from local producers. Food waste is largely avoided by educating guests, and if there are any leftovers, they are composted or fed to the chickens, dogs and cats. There are vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free breakfast options - for example delicious vegan chocolate cake. There is also a low-sugar version.

All employees come from the region. Students can work here and live for free. All employees have free access to the pool and coaching courses such as horse-assisted therapy sessions.

EnvironmentOnly organic cleaning products are used and solar panels provide electricity. The pool is cleaned purely organically. In the future, art workshops and projects will be offered, the proceeds of which will be put into nature conservation projects, such as the protection of sea turtles in Sicily.

Well-BeingMeditations, horse constellations, equine assisted therapy. Yoga retreats, executive retreats, team building. Guests can enjoy sessions from local therapists. Ayurveda courses will also be offered soon.
