Casa Navegna is a house with striking architecture. Add to that the many art books, design classics, and some rather unusual details: the owner has a penchant for robots, which are therefore found throughout the house. Michelin Men also appear in various places, including as lamps. The owners designed and built many things in the house themselves. For example, the red floor lamp in the living room was made from three simple plastic cutting boards – a small, rather charming reminder that not everything here has to be perfectly designed.
The house has been owned by the same family since 1929 and has been rented out to guests since 2024. Today it belongs to the over-80-year-old owner, a Swiss psychiatrist who is the third generation to own the house. Ivana and her daughter manage the rentals and welcome the guests.
What makes Casa Navegna special is this blend of architecture, art, personal finds, and the free, creative atmosphere. The owners want guests to experience precisely this atmosphere and to immerse themselves in the house and its history. Added to this is the view: especially from the roof terrace, the panorama stretches far across the landscape with its lake, mountains, and rivers. And Locarno is right next door – including its famous film festival in August.

Many of the furnishings in the house are old and in very good condition. If something can be repaired or refurbished, it isn't simply replaced. The sofa, for example, was recently reupholstered. The family also prioritizes continuity when it comes to renovations: since the major renovation in 2004, they have worked with the architectural firm Baserga Mozzetti from neighboring Muralto. The architects have been working with Casa Navegna for 22 years now – on both large-scale renovations and smaller projects.
Guests at Casa Navegna are self-catering and are welcome to help themselves to produce in the garden. Depending on the season, grapes, figs, mirabelle plums, tomatoes, cucumbers, and various herbs grow there, which can be harvested directly and used in the kitchen.
The house has undergone further energy efficiency improvements: This year, the owners replaced the old oil heating system with a geothermal heat pump. This means that Casa Navegna will no longer rely on fossil fuels for its heating needs.
There is a small pool in the garden with a water depth of about 45 centimeters. It is not intended for swimming, but rather for cooling off on warm days.
