Capraleccia

Orciatico, Tuscany, Italy

Capraleccia is a place of peace and well-being, embedded in the wild and romantic nature of the Tuscan hills. From here you have a spectacular view of the region that invites you to linger.

Despite its isolation, the holiday home is only a short walk from the nearest village. The detached holiday home offers guests absolute peace and independence, without having to worry about neighbours or disturbing outside influences. Here they can enjoy nature and switch off in the midst of the idyllic surroundings.

The hosts Julia and Georg opened the holiday home in April 2024 after a two-year complete renovation. The house is part of a farmstead, surrounded by old stone walls, olives and wine and with a fabulous view of the Castello di Orciatico and the Apennines.

The vision of the two hosts was to move to beautiful Tuscany after many stressful years of working in the big city and to live there on the old farm in harmony with nature. They grow organically, practice sustainability in their everyday lives and create space for their creative ideas.

The house is stylishly renovated and tastefully furnished with a mix of modern and antique furniture. The inventory consists of some modern designer pieces from the family, many existing pieces of furniture have been lovingly refreshed and complemented by some antique Tuscan-style pieces found at local markets.

The house extends over two levels, which are connected by a modern steel staircase, and thus exudes both spaciousness and coziness. Each room is unique and designed with great attention to detail. The sun shines through the windows and creates a real feel-good atmosphere.

Sustainable

ArchitectureIn the typical Tuscan stone house, great emphasis was placed on sustainability during the renovation. The hosts reused existing materials, such as old ceiling beams, which now serve as steps on the stairs, and old bricks for the design of the outdoor area. Even the kitchen counter is made from an old cypress tree. The furniture in the living room comes from Julia's parents and has been lovingly refreshed. Overall, they relied on existing items for the furnishings in order to act sustainably. Only the mattresses were replaced with high-quality new ones. Some lamps were even made from materials from the garden. The floor tiles come from the region, and the new roof beams are made of chestnut wood, which is common locally. During the renovation, the hosts also only commissioned Italian construction companies to ensure that they supported local craftsmen.

FoodBreakfast and dinner 1-2 times a week are available on request, as well as picnic baskets - all organically grown, where possible directly from the farm. On arrival, guests are greeted by a welcome basket with a selection of their own products or other organic products. The organic waste is composted in the garden, while the remaining waste is properly disposed of at the collection points. The hosts also have a selection of their own products for sale to their guests. These include various pestos (fennel, vine leaf, basil), olives, various jams, tomato sauce, artichoke hearts - all organic.

Julia and Georg are in close contact with the village community, 80% of which are over 80 years old. They are often consulted and get tips.

EnvironmentSolar panels on the roof allow the house to generate solar energy, while all domestic water is recycled and used for irrigation in the farm - including rainwater. The hosts practice waste separation according to local guidelines and provide organic soap and organic dishwashing liquid. They also encourage their guests to use natural resources sparingly, and excessive electricity consumption is charged separately.
