The Bohemian Cottage apartments and tiny house in Bohemian Switzerland combine high quality, simplicity and modern style. Inspired by art and nature, such as the rising sun over the mountains, the mist of the valley or passing cows, the married couple Irena and Aleš opened the Bohemian Cottage to allow their guests a relaxing time.
The cottage dates from the 19th century and was carefully renovated in 2017 and 2018 and expanded to include a wellness area. Since then the Kubica family has accommodated international guests who want to relax and enjoy the Czech nature.
The large garden plays a special role in the cottage, where you can spend many hours in the hammocks or garden chairs. The stone terrace with grill is particularly popular in summer for social evenings. The natural swimming lake delights both young and older guests. The in-house herb garden consists, among other things, of medicinal plants that are processed into teas. Appropriate courses are offered to create your own medicine cabinet.
Excursions to the adjacent forest or mountains are also on the program. Aleš is a national park guide and can give guests valuable tips for dealing with nature, Irena is a pharmacist, yoga teacher and physiotherapist and offers courses on aromatherapy and medicinal herbs.
ArchitectureThe four apartments and the tiny house were built by local craftsmen. During the renovation, care was taken to preserve the original floor and the stairs. Some of the furniture has also been restored or rebuilt to measure. The entire interior comes from the Czech Republic, from the beds to the curtains. The regional artists Silvie Malyszová and Lenky Meszárosová made the decorative elements from linen for the rooms.
FoodThe groceries and bread are procured in the area, avoiding going to the supermarket as far as possible. The vegetables come from your own and from the garden of friends. The breakfast basket is carefully filled by the hosts' grandmother every morning with seasonal products. Guests can also purchase local cheese, beer, wine and sweets in the cottage. You can also book a full board option, which offers a variety of dishes from vegan pasta bolognese to Indian dishes. In addition, there are various delicious cakes to choose from every day.
The cottage is socially committed by financing the “Agentura Pondeli” organization, which helps people with mental health problems.
EnvironmentSustainability can be described as the lifestyle of the cottage. The entire building has its own deep well and a sewage treatment plant. Only ecological cleaning and cleaning agents are used, the waste is separated, kitchen waste is composted as far as possible, and the rainwater is collected and used for watering the garden.
Well-BeingThere is a small hall where yoga is practiced under the guidance of Irena. The kind of wellbeing is provided by the inspiration that the cottage wants to give, but also by getting to know new people. The wellness area with sauna and jacuzzi is rounded off by the natural bathing lake and massages. Bicycles, e-bikes, snowshoes and skis can also be borrowed. The nearest ski area is only a 10-minute drive from the cottage and is therefore perfect for winter sports lovers. The Bohemian Cottage also offers various guided hiking and cycling tours or Nordic walking lessons.
The Bohemian Cottage is just under 3.5 hours from Berlin (265 km). It is about 1.5 hours (93 km) from Dresden, about 2.5 hours (206 km) from Leipzig and about 5.5 hours (547 km) from Munich, as well as from Vienna (428 km). The exact address can be found on the property's website.
