The Boutique Hôtel Basgi Basgi is nestled between fragrant pine forest, Mediterranean garden and the turquoise sea of the north coast of Corsica.
The charming town of Saint-Florent is located nearby, its coastal scenery and narrow streets reflecting the typical lifestyle of the region. The house itself naturally connects this environment with its architecture and atmosphere.
Guests are accommodated in a historic building that was once one of the region's first wineries and has now been carefully transformed into a small boutique hotel. Coline and Matthieu Marchini run the establishment in its third generation and personally welcome their guests with a warmth that quickly creates the feeling of being among friends rather than in a hotel.
The idea behind Basgi Basgi was clear from the start: to create a responsible boutique hotel that preserves Corsican identity while offering comfort and ease. The decor reflects this attitude: Mediterranean, sunny and tranquil, with natural materials, soft colors and a relaxed, warm atmosphere.

The construction also consciously prioritizes natural and durable materials. These include wood in the window and door frames, as well as lime plaster, both of which contribute to the house's ecological quality and pleasant indoor climate. Furthermore, the house's architecture was intentionally designed to be closely connected to the surrounding landscape and reflect the authentic identity of the Nebbiu region. Rather than blending into its surroundings, it engages in a harmonious dialogue with them. The furnishings, too, were carefully selected from an international perspective: many pieces of furniture originate from Portugal, Morocco, and Greece, bringing diverse artisanal influences and materials into the home.
The menu is adjusted approximately four times a year to make the best use of seasonal produce and to prioritize regional sourcing. Around 50% of the ingredients used are organically grown. The culinary concept is complemented by a small, aromatic garden on-site, where cherry tomatoes, lemons, and fresh herbs, among other things, grow and are used directly in the kitchen. Conscious resource management is also a priority in the hotel's daily operations: organic waste is collected and composted to support the natural cycle.
Around 30% of the employees come from the local area, and more than half of the team consists of women. Employees benefit from comfortable and healthy accommodation as well as free meals during the workday. Furthermore, the local community is actively supported, primarily through financial contributions and in-kind donations to various associations, cultural initiatives, and projects dedicated to preserving the regional heritage.
As part of the targeted EU Ecolabel certification, numerous measures were implemented to significantly reduce the ecological footprint both during ongoing operations and during guests' stays.
Outdoors, a heated pool invites guests to swim and relax. During the summer months, complimentary yoga and Pilates classes are offered on weekends. In-room massages can also be arranged upon request. The surrounding area offers a wealth of opportunities for exploration: hiking and cycling tours are available, as well as excursions on e-bikes, which are provided for guests' use.
... this recently opened Mediterranean-meets-minimalist four-star boutique hotel exudes an engaging, easy-going warmth that grows on you, hour by hour. Set back on a hilltop above the port of Saint Florent – a mini-resort fishing village with a cluster of pink, grey and ochre stone houses – the building was formerly an 1880s-built wine cellar that the gracious owners, Coline and Matthieu Marchini, transformed into a peaceful, unpretentious bolthole simply made for slow living.
