Lugano, in sunny Ticino, enchants with its Mediterranean charm and a backdrop that stretches from the glittering Lake Lugano to the lush green mountain peaks. Just a few minutes' walk from the train station, you can't help but take a closer look at the special, stylish building, an architectural highlight.
The two hosts of the B5 Boutique Hotel, Alexandra and Daniel Hahne, have transformed the historic building from 1923 into a modern urban oasis. A retreat with a cosmopolitan flair - stylishly modern, sustainable and inspiring. The hotel, redesigned by the renowned architect Dario Franchini, celebrates the history of the house with a facade inspired by oxidized copper, which is often found in old Ticino villas and is typical of the Besso district.
The commitment to design and sustainability continues inside. The twenty rooms in total offer various room categories such as the charming "Nomad" or "Lofts" for guests who need more space.
Particular attention is paid to the culinary offerings. Regional and seasonal ingredients support the dedicated work of local producers. Whether it is the bread from Nicola Cavallini or the coffee from her friend Fabio's roastery - every detail is carefully selected by the hosts. The spacious terrace area was designed by Thierry Dalcant in the style of a lush jungle and is ideal for reading, working or enjoying an aperitif.
The charming boutique hotel is an inclusive place and combines authentic and inviting modern design with a sustainable approach. A real place to be!

ArchitectureThe completely modernized building was designed by Dario Franchini (DF_DC Architects) and uses the staging of the historical building fragments to tell the more than 100-year history of the property, which previously accommodated guests as "Albergo Stella". The ceramic panels of the facade abstractly reflect the surroundings and transform the sage-green monolith (block of rock) into an architectural work of art. Dario Franchini comments on the concept of the B5 Boutique Hotel Lugano: "Our vision was to create a retreat that reflects the charm of Lugano - a mixture of cosmopolitan flair, contemporary elegance and a warm atmosphere. The result is a hotel that combines the attributes of the city and celebrates the traditional history of the house." At the rear of the building there is a spacious terrace, designed by the French landscape architect Thierry Dalcant and planned based on the model of a lush jungle.
FoodIn the charming "Salotto" of the B5 Boutique Hotel, guests can not only enjoy a rich and varied breakfast, but also the traditional aperitif to the full. The hotel places particular emphasis on regionality and seasonality and therefore prefers to source products from local suppliers and partners. Breakfast pampers guests with handmade delicacies such as fragrant bread, aromatic cheese, creamy alpine butter, refreshing yoghurt and hearty salametti. Later in the evening, there is beer brewed especially for the B5 Boutique Hotel in Lugano.
EnvironmentIn order to keep the grey energy low, the original building was preserved and completely modernized in accordance with the CECE B plus specifications. Environmentally friendly materials were used that are not only long-lasting, but can also be easily dismantled and reused. Thanks to modern technologies such as photovoltaics and heat pumps, the hotel completely avoids fossil fuels. The massive insulation not only offers guests plenty of privacy, but also helps maintain the temperature, while automatic sun protection ensures energy efficiency. Water-saving fittings, energy-efficient devices and a recycling program also help to minimize resource consumption. In addition, the hotel encourages its guests to use climate-friendly means of transport and provides the free Ticino Card for this purpose. This card guarantees free use of public transport and thus supports sustainable travel and exploring the region. This makes the B5 Boutique Hotel a pioneer in the city.
