Argilaia is nestled in the gentle, typical hills of the Maremma in Tuscany, a landscape often described as the "wild west of Italy".
From the house, the view opens up across wide fields in the lower hills, dense forests on the higher slopes, and the characteristic, tranquil landscape of the region. In the distance lies the small village of Saturnia, while the sunrise rises daily from the valley, bathing the hills in warm light.
Argilaia itself is a historic "podere," a farmhouse made of natural stone, built around 1840. The family moved from Naples to Tuscany in 1983, bought the property from a local farmer, and began a new life surrounded by nature – initially without electricity or a telephone. Over time, the house was carefully restored, always preserving its original character.
Today, Argilaia remains family-owned. Hostess Laila lives in a small house right next to the property and personally welcomes guests. The aim is to offer a glimpse into the simple, rural lifestyle of Tuscany, without over-the-top staging, but with plenty of nature and space.
The large, expansive property has been lovingly planted over the years, combining local vegetation with additional plants from the family history. This creates a garden that blends harmoniously into the landscape while simultaneously creating a special atmosphere.
The surrounding area also offers great diversity: Etruscan ruins, medieval villages, nature reserves, and destinations such as the sea near Argentario or Monte Amiata are easily accessible. Cities like Rome, Siena, and Florence are also within a pleasant driving distance.

The house was built from bricks that were made on-site decades ago. Back then, there was even a kiln on the property where the bricks were fired from local clay. This approach continues inside: part of the furnishings consists of old, regional furniture and tools that were refurbished and repurposed by the owners themselves.
The company is committed to consistent waste separation and recycling. Organic waste is collected and composted to return it to the natural cycle. Conscious resource management is also practiced in daily operations: bed linens and towels are only changed when absolutely necessary to avoid unnecessary consumption. Single-use bath products are also completely avoided to reduce waste and promote a more sustainable approach to materials.
