Vinha Da Manta

Faia, Centro Region, Portugal

For those who like to sleep in a tent, but do not want to do without comfort, the Lodge tents of the Vinha Da Manta are a dream come true. Awakened by the rising sun, the view sweeps from the tent for miles across the valley while you drink the first coffee, made from flowing spring water, in a perfectly equipped kitchen.

For breakfast, which is included in the price, we go to the main house, where you can meet the other guests and the children can get to know each other and start the day together. Of course, breakfast is not a must, as is attending the large dinners, which are offered four times a week and are prepared exclusively with organic products.

Overall, there are few rules at Vinha da Manta, and the atmosphere is accordingly relaxed, just as the operators Menno and Jacqueline had in mind. In 2011 they moved with their three children from the Netherlands to their previous holiday home in Portugal, and have now made it their own dream of an ideal holiday destination - the perfect combination of nature and comfort.

The holiday complex is located along the hill in the terraces typical of the region, which offers the possibility of individual private areas for the various lodges, sometimes even with their own small water pools. If you like a little company, cocktails can be served on the cozy communal areas in deckchairs and hammocks and the huge swimming pond full of spring water, which is only cleaned of water plants without chemicals, is a real sensation. Its banks are varied and nature-like, with a flat edge on one side for non-swimmers who only want to splash around a little and deep enough for swimming, jumping and diving at the other end.

The region has so far hardly been developed by tourism and there are many original villages and towns to visit, the national park Serra da Estrela invites you to go hiking and swimming and on Da Manta there are five horses available for beginners and experts stand.

Sustainable

ArchitectureLarge tents stand on wooden platforms in the midst of lush nature. The constructions made of poles, cords and canvas, developed in Canada and manufactured in the Netherlands, stand out brightly against the lush green of the surroundings and integrate harmoniously. Only through the canvas separated from the free wilderness is it particularly good to feel protected but at the same time to get in touch with the free nature and culture of this place.

FoodThis is where the landlord cooks himself. After long years in the offices of the big cities in the Netherlands, Menno finally stands in his comfortably furnished kitchen every day and prepares the daily breakfast and a large dinner several times a week for his family and their guests. With high quality standards, he prepares typical Portuguese and Mediterranean dishes, always with that certain something of imaginative variation. Cooking is done exclusively with fresh products, herbs and vegetables from our own organic garden and, of course, our own fruity organic olive oil. Menno sources everything else like cheese, meat and wine from its direct neighbors, also from bio or even biodynamic production.

If possible, kitchen and agricultural aids from the neighboring village are used on da Manta and guests are provided with excursions with regional specialists for climbing and canoeing. In the high season, Manta offers space for volunteers interested in sustainable tourism / agriculture.

EnvironmentThe gentle and sustainable use of nature is very important to the family. That is why part of the electricity required is produced by solar systems on da Manta. The ecological swimming pond is completely free of chemicals and agriculture is also managed biologically and sustainably on the Manta 100 percent. To protect the environment, food is around 80 percent vegetarian. All wood used is grown exclusively regionally and ecologically. To protect the deep darkness of the night, which has now become rare worldwide, only weak solar light lamps are used on Vinha Da Manta.

Well-BeingEvery morning you can practice yoga on the large terrace with a view. Professional massages are possible on request.
