VillaVerde

Algund bei Meran, South Tyrol, Italy

A mix of old and new is lived holistically in VillaVerde: the villa built in 1908, then known as Villa Lemberg, is now the heart of VillaVerde. Two new buildings were added to the old villa, which now total 35 apartments make available for guests. It was important to the host Heidi and her three daughters with whom she runs VillaVerde to create a feel-good atmosphere in which sustainability is combined with functionality and quality.

The villa and the property were bought by the grandfather of the family a few years before the restoration and made the dream of the daughter and the granddaughters possible, to accommodate guests in their birthplace Merano.

The contemporary hotel concept is reflected in the entire architecture. The apartments were deliberately designed similarly, with the exception of the two apartments in the historic villa. For over two years, furniture and furnishings were collected at flea markets and antique fairs in Italy, which can be found throughout the house today. The furnishing style is timeless, modern and informal, and allows a lot of space for light and generosity. The attention to detail characterizes the entire interior - from the choice of materials to the color concept.

Guests can make themselves comfortable around the fireplace in the fireplace room, around the piano in the villa, or on a lot of vintage furniture. The large library has numerous books that can be discovered. The spacious outdoor area with herb garden, terrace, garden, coffee house and veranda also invites you to linger.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe architecture is a successful connection between the old villa and the new building, in which many wooden elements, such as the local larch, have been used. The buildings arranged in the form of an arena surround the park with the natural swimming pond, the outdoor pool and the herb garden. There is a suitable place to linger for every mood in VillaVerde: in the coffee house, in the fireplace room, in the villa, on the light-flooded veranda or on the terrace. Each place has its own charm and mixes old and new, inside and outside excellently. Architect Christina Biasi von Berg and her team from Biquadra, together with the women behind VillaVerde, have managed to create a successful style in harmony with nature. With a lot of experience, feeling and respect for the history of the villa, the interior designer and designer created an aesthetic connection between the villa and the new building. It was based on high quality and durable materials, such as natural oiled oak floors. The renovation took place exclusively in cooperation with local suppliers and craftsmen, whereby mainly regional materials were used.

FoodThe hostesses deliberately chose only a breakfast offer because they feel that the many local restaurants should be tried. There is also a fully equipped kitchen in every apartment that can be used in a cozy atmosphere. For this they offer a special delicacy in the morning, which is always homemade, fresh, seasonal, regional and predominantly organic. For example, the honey comes from a beekeeper from the Vinschgau Valley, jams are made with only a little added cane sugar, herbs come from our own herb garden, baked goods are made with spelled flour and there is unsulphured dried fruit. The selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes is large and intolerance is often taken into account. If bread is not completely used up, it comes back to the baker, who uses it to make dumplings. Guests at VillaVerde, for example, can look forward to these breakfast treats: spelled pancakes with mascarpone cream and fresh fruits, vegan berry crumbs and the most chocolatey chocolate brownies with South Tyrolean organic coffee Caroma.

With the exception of housekeeping, only local employees who come from the immediate area are employed. Those maids who come from other countries of origin have been resident in South Tyrol for several years. All employees are offered continuous working hours and they can bring in their wishes and suggestions at any time. Due to the high consumption of slippers in the last season, which were usually only worn once, VillaVerde would like to encourage guests to bring their own from home in the future. Alternatively, slippers can be purchased at the hotel at the purchase price. The hostesses double the amount raised and donate this to the “plant-for-the-planet” organization. In addition, VillaVerde supports the “Pet Lamp” project (https://petlamp.org/), in which plastic from the oceans and beaches is collected and processed into beautiful lampshades. Here, craftsmanship and design play a special role, which manufacturers from their countries incorporate. This creates new jobs at the same time. The Pet lamps can be found in the VillaVerde coffeehouse.

EnvironmentThe heating, cooling of the pool and the air conditioning system are optimally covered by a photovoltaic system. In addition, the pool is prepared and cleaned by salt water. The plants are subjected to biological plant protection and fertilized. Attention is paid to waste separation in the entire hotel and apartments, and ecologically certified cleaning and washing agents are used. Duvets and pillows are made from sustainable Tencel fabric. There is deliberately no range of shower caps or sewing kits, but there are organically certified natural cosmetics from South Tyrol with local herbs. All in all, the accommodation is certified with the KlimaHaus building standard (seal of quality for residential buildings) "Gold A plus".

Well-BeingThe Well-Being offer includes a large selection of massages, cosmetic treatments, a Finnish sauna and a bio sauna. The offer is rounded off by water, in the form of a steam bath, the pool with salt water treatment, a cold plunge pool and the natural bathing pond. In the treatment rooms with a view of the mountains, each guest can decide what they need and how much time they want to plan for it. Three different time slots can be booked for all treatments: 50, 80 or 120 minutes - which allows guests to relax in an uncomplicated manner. In the VillaVerde, the line of cosmetics Pharmos Natur is offered, using the fresh plant leaf of aloe vera. The cosmetic series is grown fairly (mixed culture) and is carefully processed. The company has a longstanding relationship with local farmers and workers. The salon is a very special treatment room - with paneling, floral wallpaper and vintage furniture. There is also a bike rental in the village and direct access to long bike paths. Hikes are possible directly from the hotel, there is a tennis court in Merano, a mini golf course and a volleyball court are in Algund. You can also go rafting and visit the summer toboggan run in the hiking and skiing area Merano 2000. Also not far away are the botanical garden of Trautmannsdorf, a high ropes course as well as nature and adventure trails.

Testimonials

Bianka Morgen, instyle.de, May 2020
