SEE 31

Traunkirchen, Upper Austria, Austria

People need a roof over their heads. Even on vacation. But: in such a beautiful environment, with such an overwhelmingly beautiful view of the lake and mountains and sky and meadows, you want to do without all view-blocking walls.

Of course, this is not entirely possible, but what did you study architecture for? Among other things, to be able to combine sufficient protective and supporting walls with as much window area as possible. And Mira Thal-Buchleitner and Michael Buchleitner realized that to perfection in their small, brick-shaped holiday lofts on Lake Traunsee in the Salzkammergut. In these small wooden pieces of jewelery directly on the green meadow on the slope, you can now sit warm and cozy in the luxuriously furnished room and feel almost as if you were outside enjoying the panoramic view.

A stay in the SEE31 lofts is recommended in every season. Depending on the weather, meadows, patios, bathing jetties and the lake or mountains and snow attract. Otherwise, there are many interesting places to explore in the near and far. Boat and bicycle tours are also possible. And for relaxation, each loft has its own sauna in the spacious bathing area and a fireplace in the living area.

The couple of architects built and furnished the accommodations for their own family. Corresponding comfort and equipment can be expected. Still, they didn't want to build a vacation home that would be empty most of the year. The rental has also been running since September 2014 and gives the Buchleitners an unexpected joy: "Experiencing the enthusiasm and appreciation of our guests is a particularly positive experience that we never expected."

Sustainable

ArchitectureAll around modern, the two cube-shaped wooden houses stand on a slope that slopes gently to the water and look out over the surrounding mountains and lake with their many huge glass windows. Perhaps it is due to the high-quality wooden surfaces made from local woods with which the houses are boarded up, perhaps also to the reflection of sky and nature in the large windows. In any case, the clear design language of modern architecture and the romantic flower meadow with fruit trees around it harmonize amazingly well. Through the large windows you can stay in the houses and still feel very connected to the outside. For maximum privacy, all windows can be completely closed with wooden blinds. As far as possible, regional materials are used for the surfaces. Oiled solid larch wood meets felt, stone and glass.

EnvironmentThe wooden construction of the SEE31 lofts is energy-saving in production and recycling, and all wooden surfaces are not painted if possible. The flat roofs of the houses are green and the garden was also created almost without surface sealing. Of course, the modern wooden houses are also equipped with modern heating technology. A boiler with a continuous flow principle and large heat buffer as well as the underfloor heating save as much energy as possible when heating. Highly insulating triple glazing and wooden blinds reduce the nighttime energy radiation. And of course, only LED lights are used in the lofts and the waste is meticulously separated.

Well-BeingThe lake with its own bathing jetty attracts you to take a refreshing bath in the morning sun before breakfast. There can hardly be anything better for circulation and mind. Otherwise, each loft has its own sauna and a large bathtub. Various sauna oils, soaps and shower gel are available for guests. As an extra, contact to a feel-good and lava stone masseuse and a hiking guide will be arranged.
