Schneeganserhof

Grabenstätt (Chiemsee), Bavaria, Germany

At the Schneeganserhof, the day begins with a view that makes you happy: sparkling water, the gentle lapping of waves, and the vast silhouettes of the mountains beyond. Those who like can hop on their bikes directly from the farm, roll through the large wooden gate onto the Chiemsee cycle path, and pick up fresh rolls in nearby Chieming—perhaps with a quick dip in the lake on the way back.

Hosts Petra and Wolfgang have lovingly created this special place into a retreat for nature lovers. The historic farm dates back to 1512, and the current farmhouse has stood on this site since 1865 – now completely renovated and decorated in warm tones, nestled among 15 hectares of meadows, fields, and a 5,000-square-meter garden. Here, heirloom fruit varieties bloom alongside bee pastures, and the fields extend to the alluvial forest on the lakeshore.

The holiday apartment on the ground floor of the old barn combines modern architecture with natural warmth: plenty of wood, clean lines, and bright rooms. It features an open-plan kitchen, a spacious living room, a comfortable bedroom with a work area, a bathroom, and a private sauna – and a view through a large glass door onto the southwest-facing terrace, Hirschau Bay, and the panorama of the Alpine foothills.

Art, literature, and music are also part of the ambiance, complemented by sculptures in the 600-square-meter garden. Whether quiet hours in the sun or discoveries in one of the most beautiful locations on Lake Chiemsee – here, everyday worries melt away as easily as the morning mist over the water.

Sustainable

Architecture

The Schneeganserhof is a 30% energy-plus house equipped with a large photovoltaic system and geothermal heating pipes. In collaboration with local architects, interior designers, and craftspeople, they created a high-quality, refined apartment that lacks nothing. The furnishings reflect the colors of the surrounding nature and combine sustainability with quality: a forest-green linoleum kitchen with a fabric-covered bar, a dining nook crafted by regional carpenters, and a dark gray-sage sofa on long silver fir floorboards.

All the staff who take care of the house and garden come from the region. The hosts selected the landscape gardener, among other things, for his special commitment to supporting people with disabilities.

Environment

Electric cars are included in the accommodation, as are private wells for irrigation and domestic water. No fertilizer or manure is applied to the meadows – part of a landscape conservation area. Organic farming is carried out by a Naturland organic farm, which only mows from mid-June onwards, when ground-nesting birds and young have grown undisturbed. The farm's own forest adheres to the principle of natural regeneration: 20 selected biotope trees are protected for their entire lives and provide habitat for birds, insects, and fungi. Toxic cleaning agents are also not used here, and the application process for the LBV (Bird-Friendly Garden) designation is currently underway.

Well-Being

The Schneeganserhof also has its own sauna, which provides relaxing moments of well-being, especially on cooler days.
