House

Hütte am Wald

Hof bei Salzburg, Salzburg (state), Austria

The hut at the forest was built by the Schwick family in 2017 as a retreat on the sunny edge of the forest, not far from Lake Fuschl, to create a place of relaxation and recreation in the middle of nature. They had already built their own house in wood block construction and wanted to repeat this type of building and implement it with local service providers.

With a love of detail and a flair for design, they designed the hut at the forest and furnished it to a high standard. The clear lines meet contemporary design. Natural materials, especially wood, in combination with a calming, natural color palette create a special feel-good atmosphere. The furniture is based on the design of the Danish furniture designer Jens Risom and the Austrian family company Schmiedinger Möbelbau. The guests enjoy the large, light-flooded, loft-like living room and the comfortable bedrooms. From the rooms you have a view of the surrounding nature and the inviting garden. There is a private sauna with a view of the forest. The warming fireplace can be kindled in winter.

The host family attaches great importance to actively enjoying life in harmony with nature, while switching off and relaxing. Her guiding principle is: Appreciate the local and think openly. For nature experiences and sporting activities, the family recommends the Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee, Mondsee and Attersee or the Schafberg, the Zwölferhorn and the Osterhorn group with their beautiful alpine pastures.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe hut at the forest was built from local wood using solid wood. Much of the furniture is also made from local wood. The construction work and the creation of the furniture took place in cooperation with local suppliers.

FoodThe hut at the forest is designed for self-sufficiency. The garden has its own raised bed with seasonal vegetables from which guests can help themselves. The nearby supermarket offers a very good selection of regional organic products. The closest inn offers meat dishes with animals from their own husbandry.

EnvironmentThe best quality drinking water comes from the tap, so buying mineral water can be avoided. The rubbish is separated in the hut, there is an organic compost in the garden. The hut is equipped with energy-saving lamps. Environmentally friendly cleaning agents are used for cleaning. Thanks to the solid wood construction, which ensures a pleasant room climate in all seasons, there is no need for air conditioning. In addition, the use of plastic is avoided, for example in the bathroom with refillable dispensers.

Well-BeingA private sauna invites you to relax, while the forest can be observed. Yoga mats are available in the hut. In winter, guests can borrow the snowshoes that are available. Forest bathing is possible right outside the front door. Various lakes invite you to swim and stand-up paddling. Wonderful walks around the nearby lakes or short hikes to the next peaks in the Salzkammergut are also possible at any time of the year. In winter, cross-country skiing, tobogganing or skiing are on the program.
