Historic Homes Zafig

Latsch, South Tyrol, Italy

In the Historic Homes Zafig, guests who are looking for a special holiday accommodation get their money's worth. The historic farm with the barn is an architectural highlight and offers its guests an incomparable South Tyrolean atmosphere.

The hosts Evi and Peter decided in 2018 to design Zafig as an original holiday accommodation. The historic farmhouse is around 500 years old and the ensemble was carefully renovated in the 1980s. Two small and one large residential unit were created. After a further renovation, three stylish holiday apartments have now been created in the area of tension between historical building fabric and modern architecture.

For a long time, the three residential units were a home for people from Latsch and the surrounding area. After the last tenants moved out at some point, the hosts thought about a new purpose for the house. It should be a meeting place, a special vacation home. She is very happy when guests from all over the world are at home in Za fi g today.

The owners, architecture enthusiasts, even frequent travelers and constantly on the lookout for special accommodation, have implemented this idea with their experience and great enthusiasm: Each apartment is individually furnished - an exciting mix of old and new has been set.

Sustainable

ArchitectureZa fi g is originally part of a medieval settlement that was first mentioned in 1439. Parts of the historic stone walls have been preserved to this day thanks to careful restoration of the entire ensemble. The 500-year-old ensemble of houses was brought into line with the listed requirements with the help of creative architectural solutions. For all renovation work, only local craft firms were commissioned and regional or local building materials were used (mostly untreated wood and stone). When furnishing the apartments, attention was paid to sustainable and natural materials. The rooms were painted with natural colors. A special feature is the roofed barn, which, as a communal meeting point, conveys a unique atmosphere.

FoodZa fi g is designed for self-catering, so guests have a well-equipped kitchen and a well-stocked wine cabinet at their disposal. Upon request, guests can have a breakfast basket with regional products in front of their door. There is also the possibility of booking a chef from the area. As a small welcome gift, guests receive a homemade jam (made from apricots, currants or plums) from organic farming.

The accommodation employs people from the village who enjoy extremely fl exible working hours, taking their personal needs into account. The harmony between employees and the hosts is the claim of the host couple.

EnvironmentIn the apartments, great emphasis is placed on separating waste. There is a connection to the village's own district heating plant, water-saving showers have been installed, and biological soaps and cleaning agents are used. The careful use of water and resources is explained and conveyed to the guests in detail. The tap water comes directly from the nearby mountain springs and can be drunk without hesitation.

Well-BeingWith the barn, the house offers a special open space for yoga, meditation or other (sporty) group activities. There is also a nice and bright room for this in the large studio apartment. On request, the yoga teacher, Annalisa, who lives in the village, can be booked for lessons. For various other treatments, beauticians or masseurs can be found on request. Various outdoor activities are possible in the area: cycling, hiking, climbing, swimming, ice skating or mini golf.
