farnhaus

Dorf Tirol, South Tyrol, Italy

Ferns have always had a special meaning and are considered lucky charms. They are also the masters of photosynthesis and thrive almost everywhere. The “farnhaus” is also a particularly green place and brings holiday happiness. Stefan Kofler and his wife Franziska have returned to the origins of the place. The accommodation was built where the family guesthouse was in operation until last year and where ferns previously grew. And so the ferns are not only the namesake, but also the symbol of the closeness to nature and the newly interpreted tradition of this place.

Above all, the spectacular view over the green Tyrolean mountains and the Meran Valley makes the accommodation so special. The two panoramic apartments are bright and friendly with large windows and south-facing terraces. Harmonious colors and high-quality materials such as the chestnut wood kitchens, the satin bed linen and the (fern) green velvet for the sofas create a cozy atmosphere and at the same time ensure peace and quiet through minimalist clarity. Because that is the focus here alongside nature.

The apartments are intended for self-catering - including the delicious bread roll service from the local master baker. Guests are also allowed to take herbs and flowers from the family garden. The region is known for its particularly good climate - not only the ferns love this, but also the many vineyards and orchards in the area. A lot here revolves around product quality and enjoyment. That's why a small shop is planned with local products such as chocolate from Merano, coffee from Vinschgau, stationery from the neighboring village and books by local authors.

Sustainable

ArchitectureThe house was built by the family in 1972 and was completely redesigned in autumn 2021. All the construction companies involved in redesigning the house come from South Tyrol, as did the materials, as far as possible. Wherever possible, things are renovated instead of buying new. The old fence was quickly given a new coat of paint and the chairs from the former inn can be found in the apartments.

FoodYou can help yourself from the herb garden and get fresh bread from the baker every day. The hosts would like to host a few more chickens in the long term, which would then not only lay fresh eggs, but also do their job as natural compost recyclers.

For craft work, the hosts try to use workshops that offer rehabilitation programs for people who suffer from alcohol and drug addiction or gambling addiction.

EnvironmentIn addition to avoiding (plastic) waste, the waste that still arises is separated, attention is paid to minimizing water consumption and cleaned with biodegradable cleaning products.

Well-BeingIf desired, a lady can be arranged for a massage in the house. There are also two yoga mats available for guests in each apartment. There are no televisions in the apartments so that guests can listen to the birdsong and the “fitness trail” starts right outside the front door.
