No roads, absolute peace and quiet, pure nature – that's what awaits guests at the Menihof in South Tyrol. At an altitude of 1,250 meters, above the idyllic village of Afing, the farm is nestled in tranquil forests with sweeping views of the Dolomites. And yet, thanks to the paved access road completed at the end of 2024, the charming city center of Bolzano is just a 30-minute drive away.
The Menihof farmstead boasts over 100 years of history. At the end of 2016, Stefanie and Markus discovered the property, carefully renovated the historic barn, and transformed it into three modern holiday apartments. From the outset, their goal was to create a refuge that combines nature, tranquility, and high-quality living – a place to slow down, recharge, and enjoy the beauty of the mountains.
The apartments are simple, elegant, and characterized by timeless architecture. Natural materials, clean lines, and large windows combine the charm of the historic barn with modern design. Each apartment has its own entrance and a private terrace or balcony, guaranteeing privacy and seclusion.
The Menihof is specifically designed for couples and adult guests who value sustainability, energy independence, a connection to nature, and stylish living. The farm is completely energy self-sufficient, allowing guests to enjoy an authentic nature experience. Here, you can breathe in the crisp mountain air, explore the forest, and fully savor the tranquility of the Dolomites – a true natural paradise for peace, relaxation, and mindful retreats.

The Menihof residence is constructed as a solid wood building. The wood used for this purpose comes from the estate's own forest, was felled at the right time of the lunar cycle and was partly processed on site. Many of the wooden surfaces in the house are untreated and are allowed to age naturally. Where the sloping terrain required concrete walls, these were plastered with clay. The architecture follows a clear, minimalist design language and blends naturally into the surrounding landscape – understated, honest and timeless. The historic barn was already in place and determined the basic structure. With great respect for the existing structure, as much of the original substance as possible was preserved, while the roof and windows were replaced. In the holiday apartments, too, the rooms are characterised almost exclusively by natural materials such as wood and stone. Preference was given to regional materials, which were processed by local craftsmen from the village. The outdoor area was deliberately left largely unchanged. An open space that leaves room for experiencing nature and retreating. The forest begins right outside the front door and is part of the overall concept. The architecture of the farm was designed by Trojer and Vonmetz. The interior design, the design of the holiday apartments and the farm café were designed by Studio Claudia Unterhauser.
All holiday apartments feature a well-equipped kitchen, allowing you to prepare your own meals. Upon arrival, our guests will find a small welcome package containing authentic Italian pasta, sugo (sauce), butter, jam, and coffee. Our small farm shop also offers a selection of regional products, including wine, beer, coffee, homemade jams, and honey. A delightful selection for enjoyable, uncomplicated moments on the farm. Upon arrival, or even during your stay, Stefanie or Markus will be happy to welcome you to the farm café for an authentic espresso from a traditional espresso machine and a relaxed chat.
The Menihof is completely energy self-sufficient. All electricity is generated by a photovoltaic system and stored in batteries. A diesel generator is available for rare exceptions, quickly recharging the batteries. To conserve energy, the holiday apartments are intentionally equipped without additional energy-intensive kitchen appliances. The water comes from our own spring and is of excellent quality. To ensure the highest standards, it is further purified through several filters. During dry periods, we rely on responsible water use and thank our guests for their cooperation in conserving water. Wastewater is treated in a septic tank, which is emptied regularly. We also prioritize sustainability in our daily operations: we use the most environmentally friendly cleaning products possible, and waste separation is a high priority on the farm and is briefly explained upon arrival. We also ask our guests to treat nature with care and take their trash with them when they leave. For ecological reasons and to avoid unnecessary linen changes, there is a minimum stay of 4 nights in the off-season and seven nights in the high season.
Upon request, the hosts will gladly arrange for a professional masseuse to provide massages for groups of two or more, weather permitting, either in a quiet, shady spot outdoors or directly in the apartment. Each apartment also includes two yoga mats and accessories for individual yoga practice.
